Information only — not professional advice

PlainPatent presents publicly available patent data in a more accessible form. Everything on this site is provided for general informational and research purposes only. It is not legal, financial, investment, or business advice, and it does not create any professional or advisory relationship. Patent matters are fact-specific and jurisdiction-specific; for advice on a particular situation, consult a qualified patent attorney or other licensed professional.

Not the official USPTO record

PlainPatent is an independent project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Our figures are derived from the USPTO PatentsView research dataset, which lags the live register by several months and applies machine-learning name disambiguation that is not perfect. For the authoritative status of any patent, application, or assignment — including legal status, ownership, and validity — verify directly against official USPTO systems such as Patent Public Search and Patent Assignment Search.

Derived metrics are estimates of activity, not value

Our innovation score, technology-breadth, filing-velocity, and claim-depth figures are computed measures of patenting activity, defined in our methodology. They do not measure a company's commercial success, the legal strength or enforceability of any patent, or the market value of a portfolio. Many patents are filed defensively and never commercialized. A high score is not a prediction of business outcomes, and figures should be one input among many.

Coverage and currency

PlainPatent covers US utility patents granted within the window stated on our about page. Design patents, plant patents, pending applications, and foreign patents are outside this dataset, so companies with significant activity in those areas may appear underrepresented. Always confirm coverage and dates before relying on a figure.

No warranty

We work to keep PlainPatent accurate and current, but we make no warranty — express or implied — as to completeness, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose, and we accept no liability for decisions made in reliance on the site. If you spot something that looks wrong, our corrections process explains how to report it and how we fix it.
